Dear public-schooled Christian,
Have you searched the internet for resources for Christians who attend public school—and come up empty-handed?
Have you grappled with how your faith and school life intersect?
Do you feel like there’s almost no one else in your school who is following Jesus? Do you want to be assured that you’re not alone?
This blog is for you.
I have been in public school all my life. And, especially recently, I’ve noticed how hard it is to follow Jesus while going to public school—mainly because there aren’t many other Christian influences there.
Sure, in America we say the pledge of allegiance, reciting, “One nation, under God,” every morning. And plenty of people (at least at my school) wear WWJD? (What Would Jesus Do?) bracelets and cross necklaces.
But there aren’t many Christians who are striving daily to follow Jesus. To deny themselves and take up their crosses for Christ, as Luke 9:23 tells us to do.
Simply put, Christians who are strong in their faith and go to public school aren’t normal. “Why would he care so much about his religion?” people might think of them. “Why does she serve people like that?” “Why doesn’t he swear?”
If you’re a Christian who finds it hard to stand out and live for Jesus in your school, The Public-Schooled Christian can help you. There will be posts encouraging and challenging you to glorify God at school. There will be tips about how to handle certain situations that come with being a Christian in public school. There will also be stories and interviews from other public-schooled Christians. You’ll get to hear about their journeys in public school and be encouraged.
This school year is going to be different. We are going to stand out from the crowd and live for Jesus, even though it’s hard.
Are you ready?
P.S. If you have any tips, encouragement, or stories for your brothers and sisters in Christ, or for any other reason, you can contact me at isabella@thepublicschooledchristian.com.
